The Breaks

The Breaks are one of West London’s finest rock covers bands, you may have seen them rocking with rugby crowds at ‘Quins, London Welsh and after big matches at Twickenham. They play everything from Bowie and Weller through to the Foo Fighters, Muse and the Killers. They are a 5 piece and the current line-up has been together for 15 years. Mark Ellen, editor of Q magazine, presenter of The Old Grey Whistle Test and all-round top bloke said, “what a terrific band, all effortlessly good players and armed with such an immaculate setlist.”

The Breaks are led by Mark ‘Chips’ Chippendale on vocals and occasional tambourine, with co-founder Andy ‘Thommo’ Thompson on bass. Riza Jazeel is their rock-solid drummer, with Marko Flys on lead guitar and Charlie ‘Chas’ Makin on keys and rhythm guitar.  They play festivals, pubs and clubs. They recorded an album at the Stranglers studio in Bath under the watchful eye of J.J. Burnel. “It was probably one of the scariest weekends of my life” said Thommo, the bass player, “not only is he one of the world’s best bassists, but he’s also a karate blackbelt.”

“At heart we’re a pub rock band, there is nothing better than when we play to an audience who just want to have a good time. We just love playing songs the audience love and seeing them get lost in music. It’s the best fun you can have with your clothes on.”
